It was great start to the Vail Valley ski season
The 2018/2019 ski season is off to a great start. Both Vail and Beaver Creek were able to open a couple days ahead of schedule. With Vail opening Wednesday, November 14th and Beaver Creek opening Saturday, November 17th. Not only did they open early but with way more terrain then was open on opening day last year. It took several weeks into the season before they could even match what was available on opening day.
Vail Opening Day 2018
Unfortunately (for me), I was out of town and wasn’t able to make it out on opening day. From the pictures I saw it looked like an amazing opening day. I was able to make it on Friday afternoon for some turns. We skied off of the Wildwood and Avanti lifts and the snow was pretty good.
Vail was able to open more terrain on Saturday with the Game Creek, Northwoods and Sourdough lifts opening.
Here are some shots from Vail on Friday afternoon.
Beaver Creek Opening Day 2018
Beaver Creek opened on Saturday, November 17th with top to bottom skiing and riding available. This was great as the Red Buffalo area at the top of the mountain was open. Red Buffalo provides beginner terrain that wasn’t available on opening day last year. Young kids and those who like to stick to the easier runs had an opportunity to hit opening day.
The snow on Saturday was okay with some grass and a few small rocks showing. The 4-5″ of snow that fell Saturday night took care of that and the skiing on Sunday was pretty good.
Here are a few photos from this weekend at Beaver Creek.
According to opensnow.com we should see at least a few more inches of snow on Thanksgiving. Then the chance for more snow next weekend. Keep doing your snow dances.
